Silk screen processes

Serigraphy

Or otherwise known as the process of silk screening.

1.       A cut stencil is attached to a silk screen of fine mesh which has been stretched on a wooden frame

2.       Coloured printing ink is forced through the unmasked areas of the screen with a squeegee.

Putting a photograph onto a silk screen:

1.       Photocopy the image in black and white onto acetate using a photocopier.

2.       Select a pre-coated photo-emulsion silk screen (green)

3.       Place the silk screen face down on top of the images in the large exposure machine.

4.       Close the lid using the clips on top of the machine.

5.       Press the vacuum button.

6.       Press go button- wait for Infra red light to expose image onto the screen. Where it’s black on the image it won’t expose the screen (and therefore it will allow ink through to print).

7.       Wash off the unexposed areas of the screen using the power spray over the sink- Do the inside first, do both sides.

8.       Then when all areas have been washed away- put it mesh side up in the drying drawers.

Successful things we did for the exhibition
Any suggestions for improvement
We worked well as a team

We kept our cool under pressure and negotiated well under difficult circumstances

“ full days to set up was good- 1 day to clean and paint and one day to hang the show
Involve everyone next time

Things we could do differently next time

Make the shop more visible from the outside- possibly with a sandwich board on the pavement

Receipt book for sales

Proper contact and comments book

Coordinate everyone’s contact details for our group

Coordinate everyone’s contact lists for the invitations

Allow at least two weeks before the show to send out invitations

Make sure everyone is insured against theft/ loss/ or damage (free with a years subscription to Artists Newsletter)

Write and send out press releases to local press (check deadlines for the press )
